According to fans, Sara Evans' 2000
album "Born to Fly" was an incredible listening experience with
unexpected textures, inventive percussion and acoustic
instrumentation. Now approaching double platinum status, "Born" made
Evans a star.
Evans followed up her first recording success with "Restless," a
collection of songs that she also co-wrote and produced, and was
firmly planted in the landscape of country music.
Evans' career goes back further than most country fans realize.
Raised on a farm in Missouri, she sang every weekend in her family's
band at age 5 and became a recording veteran at age 11.
Believing that singing was to be her life's work, she moved to
Nashville in 1991 where she met musician Craig Schelske. The couple
formed a professional and personal partnership, marrying in 1993.
Evans was the most nominated artist at the 2001 Country Music
Association Awards, and took home her first such trophy when "Born
to Fly" won Video of the Year. She toured with superstars Alan
Jackson, George Strait and Kenny Chesney. In addition, she
participated in the landmark "Girls Night Out" tour of 2001 with
Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Jamie
O'Neal.
She plays the State Fair's Miller Lite Main Stage at 8 p.m. The
show is sold out, but free grandstand seats are available the day of
the show.
