Alan Jackson to headline benefit for Cystic Fibrosis

Friday, July 21, 2006

Country superstar Alan Jackson is coming to Baltimore for an upcoming one-night engagement - and he's on a mission.

Jackson will headline the 19th Annual Benefit Concert for Cystic Fibrosis at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1st Mariner Arena. Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster this Saturday.

Jackson follows the tradition of country music stars who have headlined the concert, including Brad Paisley, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride and Brooks & Dunn. Opening act will be local favorites the Hard Travelers.

Jackson, a multi-award winner, has had more than $43 million in sales and 31 number one hits during his 15-year career. His songs include "Gone Country," "Where I Come From," and "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning."

Concert organizers, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the M.U.S.E. Foundation Inc. hope the benefit will raise $1.2 million for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's medical research program. All proceeds will go toward the organization's research.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease still with no cure that affects about 30,000 children and young adults. More than $10 million has been raised for the CFF since the concert's inception.

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at all TicketMaster locations, Hecht stores and the 1st Mariner Arena box office. Premium tickets are $67.50 and reserved tickets are $42.50.
