Batesville, AR - An Arkansas man is living the life of his dreams. He wrote a song, and now one of the biggest names in country music is singing it.

He's Brent Baxter.  Remember his name, because you won't likely see his face again or hear his voice. His work and his words may someday move you to tears. Brent is a songwriter, and one of his songs is a hit. Not just any song, but Alan Jackson's hit song, "Monday Morning Church," which has climbed to number six on The Country Billboard Charts in a matter of weeks.

This ASU graduate and Batesville native says it is a rags to riches story that started as a far-fetched dream. After college, Baxter took the stable, practical road working at Alltel, but dreaming of Nashville.

One day, he decided to go to Nashville. Brent's parents say it seemed an impulsive move, especially with no job secured. Brent waited tables at Cracker Barrel, which he swore he wouldn't do, and he did. Two years and several part time jobs later, this song about a man grieving his spouse, makes it into Alan Jackson's hands. He hears the ballad, and he loves it. So now, every time this song is on the radio, everytime someone buys the CD, or you see the video, Brent Baxter is getting a little more money.

The famous line about a church on a Monday morning came from his mother and a poem she wrote many years ago. One of the lines is "when the parking lot was as empty as a Monday morning church."  Baxter is quick to credit his mom for the great line, and he's quick to credit the once in a lifetime break he got. He says it can happen to you. You have to plan your own way. There's not a road map, and this is how you become successful.

Someone asked him once what would you do if you had all the money in the world and he said I'm doing it, I'm doing it. Now that's great. Baxter says it’s kind of like winning the lottery.

(Brent Baxter) "It's a huge blessing. It's easy to see God in it, because I know it's not supposed to happen."

Brent has quit his job at Cracker Barrel. He signed a full time deal, and spends his days writing more songs. His mother is a teacher, and she came up with the idea, writing a poem about how lonely a parking lot is on Friday afternoon.

I'd like to say to Brent that Greg and Laura Perkins, and Kris and I are very proud of him.  We miss him and wish the best for him.  Brent is a wonderful person and friend and we hope to hear from him soon.  Keep up the good work Brent!  We will always be fans and friends.

This is a wonderful song!  I heard it several times over the radio and wanted to see the video.  Well, last week I saw the video for the first time and I can't think of anyone better to sing this song than Alan Jackson.  It is a gift to be able to write a song that so many people can relate to.  And it's really great to know that the man who wrote it is from Arkansas.  Way to go!  I hope that your success continues!
